In the eighteenth century Pillnitz was the summer residence of Frederick Augustus I, but also a real enclave for many great artists including outstanding composers: Carl Maria von Weber and Richard Wagner as well as the poet and thinker Friedrich Schiller. Today Dresden is a true mecca of artists.
The Schloss Hotel in Pillnitz lies just above the river Elbe near the Elbe Sandstone Mountains at the Polish-Czech-German border. The hotel is located 10 km away from the centre of Dresden, which makes it easily accessible by public transport (bus, train) or steamboat. The last option is particularly recommended, because you have the opportunity to admire a magnificent view of the castle from the river.
Enjoy a careless walk in the royal park or picturesque meadows and romantic vineyards. If you like staying active, you can rent a bike and go for a trip along the river, heading for the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
